“New Orleans Speakeasy Songwriters Revue” Brings a New Sound to Frenchmen Street

NEW ORLEANS, LA – January 7, 2011 – In October of last year, New Orleans singer-songwriter Kristin Diable, in conjunction with her own Speakeasy Records and BMI, launched a new regular series of songwriter performances at The Three Muses on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans. The series thus far has been a resounding success.

The “New Orleans Speakeasy Songwriters Revue” features Louisiana songwriters as well as some of the best up-and-coming and established talents from music cities around the country including Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, and New York. Artists taking the stage include Louisiana’s own Anders Osborne, Luke Allen, Alex McMurray, Susan Cowsill, Jim McCormick and Paul Sanchez, as well as New York’s Richard Julian and Nashville’s Amy Speace.

Says Diable of the series’ success thus far, ”Our goal with this series has been to cultivate an intimate listening environment for songwriters to showcase their music. Before we started there really was no outlet for this kind of performance in New Orleans, and the response has been really inspiring. Every night has been a full-house, and it’s shown us that there is a demand for this type of show in New Orleans from music lovers and musicians alike.”

In 2011, the NOSSR will continue to expand its presence, hosting performances at new venues throughout New Orleans as well as staging songwriting and music business panels in conjunction and coordination with The Louisiana Department of Economic Development, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and other city-, state- and nationwide organizations and events.

Through May, installments of the songwriter series will continue to be held every other Monday, from 7-10 pm at The Three Muses, 536 Frenchmen St in New Orleans. Two or three artists are featured nightly, and admission is free of charge.

The Three Muses proprietor Sophie Lee, herself a celebrated New Orleans performer, says of Diable’s initiative, “We couldn’t be any more excited to host Kristin and her songwriter series. When she proposed the concept, we knew right away that she was going to create something special for all of us to share, and the response thus far has been inspirational.”

BMI representative Mark Mason shares Lee’s enthusiasm. “We are thrilled about this opportunity to support performing songwriters in Louisiana’s contemporary music scene,” he says. “The musical diversity and skill ingrained in the state’s culture is too rich not to share with as many music lovers as possible.” Formed in 1939 as a non-profit performing rights organization, BMI was the first to offer representation to songwriters of all genres. Its current roster of songwriters and composers is unparalleled in depth and breadth, ranging from industry legends to the best of today’s hit makers.
